Spain would lose control of one of its most important industries.
Spanish newspaper El Economista reports that EADS plans to integrate the assets of former Casa, concentrated in Spain, into its own defence branch. Spain would thus lose control of one of its most important industries. The newspaper, indeed, claims thatEADS won the multibillion US Air Force tanker contract against Boeing mainly thanks to EADSCasa’s contribution. Now, the Spanish group eyes a 12% share of total work for the tankers. Once more in its history, therefore, EADS is about to “sacrifice its competitiveness” to satisfy French-German needs, laments El Economista. Yet, moving Casa’s activities to either France or Germany could threaten the power balance between the two countries, which leaves a “chance” for Spain to retain these activities in the end.
