Damage on the mid-body fuselage section of the fourth of six test Boeing 787 planes could have an impact on the already-delayed programme. The Seattle Times explains that the section is built in South Carolina at Global Aeronautica’s Charleston factory. The damage was caused by a mechanic. Meanwhile, the plant had to stop production for 24 hours beginning on Monday night after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in an audit that it was concerned about lax manufacturing procedures that could result in damage to the aircraft sections. Global Aeronautica spokeswoman Lee Kurtz said the plant’s management, not the FAA, decided to halt production. The management then set out to organise training sessions for all the plant’s workers –including hundreds of contractors- in order to focus on proper work procedures.
