Russian state-owned bank Vneshekonombank (VEB) could swap the shares it owns in EADS for a stake in the Kremlin’s new aerospace holding this autumn. At the end of last year, the state-owned bank had spent about € 1Bn to buy a stake in EADS from VTB, another Russian state-controlled bank. The Wall Street Journal Europe recalls that VTB’s acquisition of that stake in 2006 had shaken European officials, who feared Moscow was trying to muscle its way into the sensitive French-German group.
